Mon, 19 October 2009  I have selected commercial recordings of Verdi material as sung by my all-time favorite diva, Zinka Milanov. Since Nimbus has just put out two Milanov albums (one pictured), I thought I would celebrate the recordings made on RCA by Mme.Milanov. Featured are highlights from Aida, Trovatore, Forza, Ballo, and Otello. I have chosen scenes from the Nimbus album and from other commercial recordings...but again I tell you, you HAD TO BE THERE! It allowed me to rediscover this unbelievable voice and I start thinking you're right : those voices are nearly gone today.

I adore Milanov and this has some that I never heard before. I can never get too much of her glorious high notes, followed by the richly thrilling lower register. What a goddess of song and thank you so much for sharing all these riches with those of us who appreciate REAL singing. I had the misfortune of going out to the college library on a day when they had a "open mike" for students singing. Students singing rap and doing even that badly - I doubt if any of them even know what the human voice is capable of.
